International relocation happens when a parent moves to another country with his/her children.

Relocation can occur for several reasons, a job opportunity, the search for a better quality of life, marriage, etc. and, in any case, the change must be made in the best and most peaceful way for both parents and children.

When relocation happens, parents commonly go to court to fight battles over issues relating to their children.

If the relocation is made difficult by one of the parents, the matter can be brought to court, and the judge has the power-duty to decide for the parties about the conflict, from disagreements regarding custody, visitation, or child support, to authorization so the children can be relocated too.

In Brazilian law, a parent cannot change the residence of their child without the authorization from the other parent.

In these cases, the occurrence of parental alienation (link to the article) it is not uncommon, consisting in the delegitimization of the authority of the other parent, or even an international child abduction (link to the articles), taking the minor to another country without proper authorization (from the other parent or the courts).

In this way, international relocation must be well planned and discussed between the parents and, if there is no agreement between them, the dispute must be taken to judicial appreciation, with the advice of qualified professionals with experience in this field.
